Hittade länken på bloggen God in a Shrinking Universe. Där finns också ett citat från en föreläsning Nick Cave hållit på Wiens universitet. Kan inte låta bli att upprepa det här:
To write allowed me direct access to my imagination, to inspiration and ultimately to God. I found through the use of language, that I wrote god into existence. Language became the blanket that I threw over the invisible man, that gave him shape and form. Actualising of God through the medium of the love song remains my prime motivation as an artist. The love song is perhaps the truest and most distinctive human gift for recognising God and a gift that God himself needs. God gave us this gift in order that we speak and sing Him alive because God lives within communication. If the world was to suddenly fall silent God would deconstruct and die. Jesus Christ himself said, in one of His most beautiful quotes, "Where ever two or more are gathered together, I am in your midst." He said this because where ever two or more are gathered together there is language.

Hans sång är som en sensommardag; färgerna glöder på en bädd av djupnande mörker, skönheten andas i kapp med sorgen och saknaden. Blott en dag, ett ögonblick, i sänder. Men vilka dagar! Vilka ögonblick! Vilka sånger! Han är sedan tjugo år kandidat till titeln Sveriges bäste sångare, har någon sagt. Kanske vore det riktigt att kalla honom en av Sveriges största sångskapare, för allt han sjunger blir hans eget. Skillingtryck, schlager, undergroundrock, madrigaler, evergreens, visor - han kryper in i dem och ställer sig naken inför publiken. Sångerna blir hans hud, traditionen får nytt liv av hans hjärteblod. Därför får Freddie Wadling Cornelis Vreeswijkstipendiet 2005.
Absolut är Freddie Wadling Sveriges bästa sångare, och värd vilket pris som helst, men Cornelispriset? Likheterna med Vreeswijk är väl ändå inte särskilt stora? Och på vilket sätt passar han in bland tidigare stipendiater som Owe Thörnquist, Mikael Wiehe och Sven-Bertil Taube? Nåja, stort grattis i alla fall, Freddie!

Den hade definitivt blivit sommarens soundtrack. Fjäderlätt men komplex pop. Har inte hunnit lyssna på texterna så noga, men fascineras av de fragment jag hört. Och hur de ser ut, rent typografiskt: när man ser på dem i texthäftet ser de ut om korta noveller mer än poptexter. Och det är de väl också. Det är svårt att undvika att rabbla upp annan musik som dyker upp i huvudet när jag lyssnat på Love and Youth. Dagmar Krause i Slapp Happy, Stina Nordenstam, Annica Blennerhed. Kate Bush. Air.
